Who writes this

Hi, I’m Rian.

Rian Rahardi

I started as a freelance designer in 2014 with a soft spot for typography, and launched Creatype Studio in 2018. Since then we’ve published more than 475 fonts, downloaded over 12 million times and sold on Envato, Creative Fabrica, Creative Market, MyFonts and Canva.

Our fonts are used by creators, agencies and businesses in more than 100 countries.

Every week we answer the same questions from customers: which font fits my brand, can I use this in my logo, which license do I need. Type Brief is where we answer them properly, once, for everyone.

How we review fonts
1
Letterforms
Spacing, curves and how it reads at small sizes.
2
Character set
Numbers, accents and alternates you will actually need.
3
License clarity
What you can do with it, in plain English.
4
Real-world test
We set it in a logo, a social post and a print layout.
How we make money

We’d rather tell you upfront.

Some links on Type Brief are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Some fonts we recommend are our own, from Creatype Studio. We always label them, and they only make a list when they genuinely fit.

We also show ads. Advertisers never decide what we write.
